Last Sunday Torry made yet another long journey to the north of the city of Valencia to play Llosa who were 2 places and one point behind Torry. Both sides needed to get something out of the game in their battle to avoid relegation. Torry needed just a point to ensure that Torrevieja will have a team playing at national level, in the Tercera division group 6 next season.
Torry were without a number of players out through injury, Abel, Juanfran, Cuco Ros and Patri. Sergio again started along with back-up forward Jose Manuel who was surprisingly given a run-out in preference to Villanueva who had a good game on his return from a lengthy suspension in the previous game. On the bench along with Villanueva was Manu Amores who appears to have lost favour unless of course he isn’t fully fit and youngsters Guillem and Mati and keeper Javi Tur.
Torry’s starting line-up: Pepitiu, Vicente, Rafa, Sergio, Burguillos, Jorge, Dani, Gash, Luis Carlos (Guillem 88), Jose Manuel (Manu Amores 66 '), Koeman
The game kicked-off in front of a crowd of around 300. Torry set their stall out to get the point they needed and defended deeply and tried to hit the opposition on the counter attack. The game was a scrappy affair with too many misplaced passes. The opposition created the better opportunities during the game but Torry keeper Pepitiu made a number of good saves to ensure Torry kept a clean sheet. He was aided and abetted by central defenders Rafa and Jorge who were in determined mood and both picked up cautions during the game for over-robust challenges. Torry’s opportunities fell to Luis Carlos who had a number of shots on target saved by the Lllosa keeper. At the end the Torry players celebrated in the knowledge that the point gained was enough to cast aside the threat of relegation. It is worth noting that new keeper Pepitiu hasn’t conceded a goal yet in his appearances for the side in the last 3 games and that Torry’s only loss in their last 8 games was the narrow 1-0 defeat at league leaders Alzira having won 4 and drawn 3. Torry are still stuck in 13th place but it isn’t ‘unlucky”.
Torry play their final home game of the season on Sunday, kick-off 6.00 pm against Ribarroja who surprisingly beat high flyers Novelda last weekend but still occupy the 4th and final relegation spot with 2 games to go. They will be desperate for a win. Torry need to continue their good run of form, keep another clean sheet and put a few in the back of the opposition net. Hopefully Torry will field their strongest side for this their final home game of the season. The game is being played again at Torry’s spiritual home, the Vicente Garcia football stadium. At this time of year the pitch should be green and in reasonable condition. The Football Club want to make it a bit of carnival in celebration of securing survival in the Tercera and there will be music from Radio Torrevieja, a giant paella and ice-cream on offer from a Mr Whippy van BEFORE the game.
The raffle will also be bigger and better than usual with 3 prizes on offer, 2 hampers and a "ham".If you don't buy a ticket then you can't win so have a flutter.
There will be a presentation before the game to the Torry Army “Player of the Season” voted for by those members that attended the recent Torry Army general meeting.
Try to be there and get there a little bit earlier to join in the fun.

TORRY 3 ELCHE ILICITANO 0 |
On Bank Holiday Wednesday Torry entertained 3rd placed league title chasing Elche Ilicitano who barring a disastrous series of results in their remaining games were assured of being in the play-offs for promotion to Segunda. The elche side are youthful, energetic and well drilled and together with Castellon had the meanest defence in the division having conceded only 25 goals in the season to date.
Torry were without the injured Abel, Juan Fran, Cuco Ros and Patri with Manu Amores, who wasn’t fully fit, taking up a place on the bench to make up the numbers. Recent signing Pepitiu made his home debut between the sticks. Captain Jorge again played in the anchor role in central midfield. Dani was also deployed on in midfield with Sergio making a rare start at left back. Torry came into the game on a good run of form having won 3, drawn 2 and lost 1 of their last 6 games.that had seen them gradually ease their relegation worries. They have still not quite disappeared and a win would more or less ensure survival barring a castrastrophic end to the season..
